Botanical Garden and National Park

Tijuca National Park (Floresta da Tijuca)
In just fifteen minutes you can reach from Copacabana to the national rain forest park Tijuca. The forest is a lovely contrast to the hectic city life. Tijuca National Park is the largest forest area in the city and is a natural rain forest with beautiful views. It is probably the world’s biggest urban forest with cascading waterfall, moss-covered trees, streams, waterfalls and caves. The forest has an interesting fauna and is home to a diverse bird and wildlife, such as iguanas and monkey and it stretches across 4000 acres. In 1992 the Floresta da Tijuca was designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Several tour companies arrange trips to the area. You can book an organized tour through your hotel or at one of Rio’s many travel agencies. Website: Rio de Janeiro Research Institute
