Football FIFA World Cup 2014
FIFA World Cup 2014
Brazil is the national sport in Brazil and today Brazil is the is the only country to have played in the final stages of every football World Cup and it has won it 5 times, more than anybody else.
12 cities in Brazil will host World Cup 2014 among them Rio de Janeiro. According to current FIFA practice, no more than one city may use two stadiums, and the number of host cities is limited between eight and ten.
The final will be played 13th of July 2014 in Maracana and the opening game will be held in Sao Paulo 12th of June.
Of 49 planned urban-transport schemes in the host cities, work has started on just nine according to an article in the Economist from October 1, 2011.
Many people thought the finals would be played at Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Maracanã is used for mega-shows and will be renovated again and capacity will be increased to over 90 000 and it already provides that the finals will go to the Maracanã. The Maracanã will be much more modern and comfortable venue come 2013. But the Organising Committee forwarded a stadium agreement 1:st of March 2011 for the upcoming world finals to the São Paulo based football club Corinthians.
President Rousseff has appointed Pelé as the government’s honorary World Cup ambassador.
