Dates: 5:th to 21:th of August 2016
Summer Olympics 2016 will be the 31st (XXXI) Summer Olympics, and they will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The games will run from 5 th to 21 st August 2016th. It is the first time that an Olympics will be held in a South American country.
All venues of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016 will be located in four zones: Copacabana Beach, Maracanã, Deodoro and Barra da Tijuca; the latter will also house the Olympic Village.
Solar City Tower
Those who are planning to visit Rio de Janeiro at the Olympic Games in 2016 can expect a special view flying over Rio de Janeiro – an artificial waterfall, which also serves as an energy source.
Solar City Tower is planned to be 105 meters high and placed on a small island, where it will generate enough solar energy to meet the Olympic village with electricity and the running waterfall. Solar City Tower will house an observation tower, cafe and shops. The idea is that the project will generate enough energy so that the Olympic Games in 2016 will be the first that uses entirely natural sources.
The Olympic Village is inspired by sustainability and rainforest and the winner of the design of the Village was British company AECOM according to an interesting blogpost with images in Fastcompany.
The opening ceremony and some football matches will be held in Maracanã.
Rio is preparing for Golf!
Golf will return to the Olympics after absence in the olympic family for more than 100 years and it is likely that the course will be built in Barra da Tijuca according an article in New York Times.

Sailing is furthest away, about 50 kilometers.
Athletics will be held at the Joao Havelange Stadium, which will accommodate up to 60 000 spectators.
